Seton Day Care

The New York Foundling sponsors a full-time day care service for parents who live or work in the neighborhood. Seton has the space, necessary equipment and professionally trained staff to care for children from two months to 36 months of age during the hours that parents work. Seton’s hours of operation are from 8am to 6pm. The length of each child’s day is based on the parents’ work schedules. The children spend the day together under the supervision of staff in an environment that is safe, home-like and respectful of their developmental characteristics. The children are separated into four small groups according to their age range, with a permanent team of caregivers, and activities are planned to meet their developmental needs. The group ages are: 2-12 months, 10-18 months, and 18-36 months (two groups). Meals are supplied by Seton and planned by a dietitian. Parents do supply disposable diapers and diapering supplies, and bed sheets and blankets.

Seton is licensed by the New York City Department of Health to care for 38 children within the age span noted above. More than half the parents pay a private fee which is reviewed regularly and revised in line with service costs. Other families are enrolled on a purchase-of-service plan through the Administration for Children’s Services /Agency for Child Development and pay sliding scale fees based on the eligibility requirements as defined by the Title XX portion of the Social Security Act. For further information about that eligibility, call 311.

If you have any further questions, want to visit or be placed on the waiting list, please call Seton Day Care. If your child is close to three years old, you might be interested in receiving the information about the extension program – The Elizabeth Seton Pre-School/Kindergarten, which is licensed to care for 35 children aged three to six years.
